ICSI.... Yes or No?

Question

Hello! I'm on my first IVF cycle, and I'm struggling over the decision on if I should do ICSI or try to let my little eggs and his sperm do it naturally. We have been trying for 2 years, and we have unexplained infertility. Any and all tests on us both thus far have been normal. They say the rate of miscarriage on ICSI is higher, but all I know is I want this to work. The unknowns are terrifying. I'd love someone to weigh in and have some other opinions. Thanks ladies! Any and all help is appreciated.

In my opinion, if it's his sperm that's also the issue motility and all that, you should def think of ICSI, I mean, IVF isn't very natural, so if you're worried about ICSI not being natural it's all kinda one in the same. I think ICSI is a good choice because it's a little more garunteed than  just regular try to fertilization. I did IVF with ICSI, too. But if you're just worried about the "natural" part, lol we kinda past that with going through treatments you know what I mean ? 😊

My husband and I have unexplained infertility and my consultant recommended that if we managed to get 10 or more eggs then he would do an IVF/ICSI split. We only managed to get 8 but as they all appeared healthy they did 4 IVF and 4 ICSI. all Ivf eggs fertilised and 2 of the 3 icsi fertilised ( one egg ended up being to immature). If we had less eggs then my consultant would not have done ICSI. Good luck.

I felt that way but did ICSI because there is actually a pretty low fertilization rate if you don’t just because of the way it’s done. I know people that had like 12 eggs and chose not to do it and only like 1 or 2 fertilized even with no sperm issues. Talk to your Dr they will explain the specifics and the outcomes

I hadn't heard the part about the higher miscarriage rate with ICSI. That's super scary!! I'm deathly gonna talk with my doctor about that risk. my husband and I are participating in a shared risk program so ICSI is included.  ICSI is actually the only way they will fertilize eggs in the program. If we were doing just 1 ivf  cycle I would probably opt not to do the ICSI ....  it cost $2400 more and my husband doesn't have any fertility issues we are aware of (it's all me) and he  has a great sperm count/ mobility. Have you asked your doctor what they recommend? I'm sure it just depends on your situation however with "unexplained infertility" it might not hurt to do it- it's got to increase the chances!

My doctor did not recommend ICSI since my husband had no fertility issues. I would definitely talk to your doctor and gets opinion based on your specific case. Good luck!!
