Cartoons with Black Characters

M
First of all, let me say that I don't want to offend anyone by the term "black". I am in a Diversity class right now and we are learning the term "African American" can be offensive.
Anyways...
I cannot wrap my head around why cartoons today lack black characters. I remember growing up to the following cartoons with each black character:
•The Proud Family- majority of characters were black
•Rugrats- Susie Carmichael
• Hey Arnold- Gerald
• Little Bill
• As Told By Ginger - Miranda
• Recess- Vince LaSalle
• The Fairly Odd Parents- Aj
There's ONE cartoon I can think of that is currently on tv, and that is Doc McStuffins.
It is bothersome and frustrating to me that the cartoons our children watch do not have diversity in them. I do not understand why cartoons are mainly white, I truly do not understand. And I am white. I think this is a load of bs, and things need to change.
What are your thoughts?
