am I overthinking it too much?

There's this guy in my university that I've been wanting to get to know more, we've talked only a couple of times but nothing more since he seems like he's a shy guy. I'm good friends with one of his friends, but I haven't told him anything about it bc I don't want to seem "desperate." Anyways, my friend posted a picture of me on his Instagram and I find the guy that I've been wanting to talk to on there. For the past 2 days I've been freaking out bc I don't want to request him and seem like a weirdo LOL I never make the first move in anything and I just don't want him to think I'm creepy.. esp bc I do have a kid (it's never been a problem with any guy) am I over thinking it too much? Should I just wait for him to make the first move?
