When can they detect ectopic?

Just wondering if 5/6 week ultrasound can detect ectopic? I had a scan at 5.5 weeks which to me looks normal and he didn't say anything was wrong just always worrying =p

Yes they should be able to detect an ectopic pregnancy that early. If the doctor didn't say anything then everything was probably in the right place.

They would've seen it because the baby would be in the wrong place.

Yes, they would be able to see it already. I had an US at 2w5d to confirm this pregnancy was in my uterus. They should definitely be able to tell by 5/6 weeks.
