How long is too long to be nursing?

Am I the only one nursing my LO for 45 minutes to an hour. I try to have our sessions end sooner but he is still hungry and fussy or if we do end it sooner he is hungry an hour later.

mine does it too sometimes. fastest he will go is about 30 minutes for both boobs. I think they probably just want the comfort. I'd say enjoy it as long you can :)

Mine is going on 3 weeks and is a "casual eater" according to the lactation consultant.  I swear he lazily nurses all day, everyday.  He's so young, so I haven't pushed it too much, but will start working getting him to eat more efficiently and timely soon.  He's usually unhappy unless he's on the breast 😔

I think the only too long is when it's too long for mama. Then you can evaluate if baby is nursing for nutrition or comfort. If she's not active nursing, she is likely nursing to soothe which is also important and a great bonding time! My daughter nurses around the clock and I let her go for it as much as she wants. She's happy and growing. Sometimes it's definitely hard to keep up, it can be frustrating to have to go to the bathroom or want to eat or clean up the house. If you feel out of balance, it's ok to see what you can do to soothe her aside from the breast, once she's moved on to comfort nursing. Good job feeding your lo and good luck!

Mine is 8 months and he does it a night before bed and in the morning but he wakes up once to eat or not at all so I'm not complaining lol

In the beginning, my LO was nursing 30 minutes but my lactation consulant was telling me that babies stomachs are so small, 30 minutes is way too long. She also explained that there are some babies who are there to eat and there are some who want eat, take a break, eat again lol my daughter is now 4 months and she is finally only nursing for like 10 minutes. But my consultant was telling me if baby is playing with her "food" then to take her off so she won't get used to playing during meal times.

I was like that with my girl, but at 13 weeks I'm beginning to notice it takes her half that time to finish. We had latch issues early on so I'm assuming she's learning to latch and eat more efficiently as she's growing

It could be he isn't getting a good enough latch so He's only getting the fore milk (to clench thirst) and it takes him a while to get the hind milk (thick and calorie filled for food like density). But sometimes my daughter (one month) only wants to nurse for comfort when she's going for a long time, I suggest maybe seeing if he just wants it for comfort a binkie could satisfy him

How old is he? Mine does it once in a while but did it more when he was younger. He's only 3 weeks now. 😂 But now he's feedings are usually 20-25 minutes, except during growth spurts.

Normal is its normal for baby. My 3 month old still does a 45-60 minute feed right before bed at night. During the day she's much quicker though, usually 10 minutes
