opinions on "spoiling" babies?

What do you guys think about spoiling babies? Is it possible? Does it only apply after baby has reached a certain age? Is there a such thing as too much holding etc

A newborn baby CANNOT be spoiled from too much love and care... I dont understand people who are like "oh, you're holding them too much" or "you need to let them cry"

uhm hello!? Theyre a newborn baby and want/need their mom! They cant fend for themselves, cant eat on their own, cant Change their diaper on their own, and certainly dont understand what is going in in the world.  All they want is love and to be cared for.

Now, when they reach like 2 years old and start playing with toys, thats a whole other ballgame lol and they can get pretty damn spoiled then and need to be taught differently

Newborns no, spoil them. As they get older though, by 7-9 months or so, then yes it can become a problem. You can shower them with love and affection, but you need to set boundaries, have set bedtimes etc.  My SIL refuses to let her son cry ever and he refuses to go to bed, so she lets him stay up until he literally passes out from exhaustion and then she carries him to bed which sometimes isn't until 1 a.m.. ...he's 2 yrs old now and they are working parents and exhausted. Start setting boundaries as they approach toddlerhood, you don't have to be mean and harsh but sometimes they will use tears to get their way. But a newborn and young infant is not capable of 'manipulating' this way, so be responsive to them. But my 3 month old I'm starting to do very light sleep training, I don't let her 'cry it out' like with an older child, but I won't always pick her up right away if she's fussy and it's bedtime, I'll try soothing her while she's still in her bed, give her a binky, rub her forehead etc but try other things first before picking her up right away (this is after she's been changed and fed and snuggled) sometimes she falls asleep without me holding her and she's slowly  learning to fall asleep by herself.

I hung out with a baby who at 9 months knew already that if she threw a show while in dad's arms, mom would swoop in and take her. Mom ended up not being able to do much on her own. I would rather have a chance to poop on my own so I don't intend to let our baby get away with that kind of behavior.

I spoiled my first baby too much. I constantly held her, hubby would hold her whole she took naps etc. It was to the point where she would cry if i tried laying her in her crib, bassinet, swing. She just wanted to be held constantly.  So things will definitely be different with this baby !

I am going to spoil my baby. BUT you don't want to hold them ALL day, because then they not going to want to sit in announcer, swing etc because they gong to be use to someone holding them all day. Believe me I learned that with my first one. Haha

I wouldn't label it as spoiling... As you can see, you have people on two polar opposite sides of this issue.  For me personally, I think it is a personal decision that the OARENTS have to make, and other people shouldn't butt in if not needed.
 
That being said, there ARE limits.  My sil would drive me absolutely bonkers with my nephew as he would always cry if not held. So she would give in and just hold him.  This included while in a moving car... She would actually take him OUT of his seat and hold him because 'that is what he wants' and 'he shouldn't cry'.  😣
 
Set safety limits, otherwise do your thing.
 
I personally feel that my baby will get use to Daddy holding him, having some tummy/crib time when needed, but otherwise I will do my best to be affectionate and loving.

I believe you can hold a baby too much. If your going to be a stay at home mom, well that's fine. I used to babysit and I'd get babies who wanted to be held all day everyday. As a sitter you cannot sit and hold one child all day. This included daycare and such. If you going to use a sitter or day Care, keep them in mind.. put your baby down some and let them be independent. Yes cuddle them and love them but let them be too.

Babies are meant to be spoiled until they understand what is right from wrong. By 18 months, babies will know and that's when you observe. You can hold your baby as long as you want but older folkes say we should leave them let them cry and fugure it out. I can't do that to my baby. Just having him cry until he falls asleep sounds like torture

I will hold my baby whenever he cries. They don't know about manipulation until 1-1/12 yrs old. When they cry it's because they need something

Babies arent milk they dont spoil. Love and give them as much bonding so they are emotionally stable and happy
