Depression & Periods on Birth Control?

Piper

I'm 17 and experience very painful period cramps. I want to get on birth control to combat this. What I really want is to not have my period at all, which I've heard you can do easily if you're on the pill by just skipping the placebo pills.

I'm sexually active and use condoms with my boyfriend (we are both the other's first sexual partner, so STDs aren't a problem) , but I also think if I was on bc it would be nice to not use anything.

I have several questions & would really appreciate advice. I'm too nervous to bring it up with my mother/doctor unless I'm sure about it.

I am medicated for anxiety and depression. My mother was on the pill and said it made her incredibly depressed (but she was also in an abusive environment at this time) and she would not recommend it. She was very against me using it.

I'm afraid if I get on birth control I will do poorly mentally, even with my antidepressants. I would like those of you with similar situations to share your experience.

I'm also so deathly afraid of having my period for like 2 months straight the first time I use bc. I've heard it from my friends at school saying before your body evens out you have an ongoing menstrual cycle. I just can't imagine that kind of pain for so long.

I'm not necessarily only interested in the pill, though it does seem easiest.

Thank u!!!
