Bad for GYN to prescribe Clomid?

Hi all! I find all you ladies on Glow very supportive. I'd like your honest opinion on something.

Another forum I am in are telling me to drop my gyn asap because he has prescribed me Clomid before checking my fallopian tubes or my husband's sperm even though I have clear PCOS.

What did you all have to have tested before your doc would prescribe it for you and who are you seeing during your Clomid trials?

I'm a bit worried here about what I should do. My doc has been practicing as an OB/GYN. He delivered me 27 years ago.

I went in to my obgyn and when I told them I was very irregular, they did bloodwork and ultrasound and found I have PCOS as well. Prescribed 100mg Clomid for 5 days and further bloodwork showed that I didn't ovulate. They upped my dose to 150mg for 5 days in December  and it worked! I'm pregnant! I didn't notice any terrible symptoms either like some girls say they have. I am SO thankful for Clomid!!

I was not checked before I got clomid either. I was not ovulating and after I started clomid I am. This month is my second round. My dr told me if after 3 rounds nothing happens that we will get checked at that point. Clomid is much cheaper than fertility tests. Why not try that first??

My doctor first made us to a semen count. When that came back fine, she ordered the HSG. The HSG was the most painful thing ever! My tubes were fine but the opening to my cervix was closed off (sperm couldn't met the egg), they opened it. I started provera up start my period due to PCOS & then  50mg Clomid For 5 days with my first cycle. Blood work showed no ovulation. I started my period by itself with no provera & she upped my doseage of clomid to 100mg for 5 days and now I'm almost 8 weeks pregnant! Good luck! If you have any questions feel free to ask. 😁

I wasn't checked before being prescribed Clomid. Doc said I have pcos so that is the likely reason then if doesn't work after a few cycles will get laparoscopy. Many women don't ovulate with pcos and Clomid kick starts it

I had my tubes tested prior to clomid. The doctor said he had to make sure my tubes were clear beforehand or else clomid wouldn't help. I don't know if that's a reason to drop him - maybe you could just express concern and ask to have your tubes checked? The thing about clomid is you can only take it for so long, it's not a long term med. You don't want to waste too many cycles taking it only to find its working but the egg can't get fertilized because of a problem with the tubes.

So the point of the HSG and semen analysis to to ensure 
1: the egg can get to the uterus. 
2: there will be something substantial to fertilize it with.
If one of those things are off then you are dumping hormones in your boy and getting your hopes up for nothing. The safest and best thing long term is to do the HSG and semen test then go from there.

Plus, the first 3 months after your HSG my OB/GYN said your chances of pregnancy are significantly higher. Why not couple that with clomid...I think it's way worth it.
But you don't have to drop your doctor..:just talk to him and see what he thinks about doing an hsg and analysis first.

I would insist on a HSG or something else to ensure your tubes are clear. After all why take the Clomid if your eggs can't get to your Uterus? You could also have a tubal  pregnancy if they are partially blocked.  Its better to be safe thsn sorry. But if you are comfy with your Dr I don't think you  need to change unless he refuses to give you otber testing first. He knows you have pcos so Clomid makes sense but unless he knows your tubes are fine I wouldn't take the Clomid first.

I have one tube completely blocked and I take Clomid to help with the other side. I also get Ultrasounds to see which side I O on to make sure I try only when my correct side has O'd

My husband was checked and has low count and I had a hsg to my tubes to make sure they were not blocked and it came back fine I think both need to be done to rule of those factors. So we know I'm not ovulating right also if I don't start on my own I take provera.

My doctor is a fertility specialist. After confirming my obgyn's diagnosis that I have pcos, she had my hubby's sperm checked and had me do a HSG. HSG and hubby's sperm came back fine, so she put me on Letrozole. Today I start my 2nd cycle of Letrozole.

I only had blood work. I have irregular cycles, so I'm clearly not ovulating regularly and that's why clomid was perscribed. I don't have any reason to think (yet) that there is an issue with anything else.
