IUD??

Question

Can anyone tell me their experiences with IUDs? I'm looking into getting one. Feel free to debunk any myths about it too while you're at it (i.e. how preventative is it against pregnancy, does it make conception harder in the future, does it hurt, side effects, etc.)

Well, I had the Paragard IUD, which is the nonhormonal IUD. It was good for awhile. The only reason it kind of sucks is because I bled heavier on my period and had worse cramps. After about two years though, I suddenly started having brownish discharge, so i went to the gyno and they told me I had BV (bacterial vaginosis). I got antibiotics and it went away for two weeks. Then I started getting the same symptoms, so I went back to the gyno and she said this is probably going to continue and we should just take it out. Sucks because it didn't give me tons of horrible side effects like other birth control has.

I've had my Mirena for about 11 months now, and it has been fantastic.

Mirena lasts 5 years and it is 99.9% effective.
My insertion didn't hurt at all. I'n 21 with no kids and hace a retroverted uterus. I had no painkillers during or before insertion.

Mirena - and all birth control - do not affect future fertility.

I currently have it in and it's been in for almost a month now and it's nice. I got it the first day of my period and it tapered off my period, however the following week my period started back up and lasted about a day or so longer and the cramps were a little worse than usual. But it's so nice not having to take a pill and after my period was done with, I haven't had any spotting or discomfort or anything like that. I will say it does cause cramping afterwards and when she put it in, it felt like one big cramp to me and I have a pretty high pain tolerance (went in for a csection and started having contractions that morning and was walking within 12 hours of the csection no meds)
