Do you tell your Boyfriend that you were molested as a young kid?

Help! My boyfriend and I have been best friends since the 6th grade, and all throughout high school we got closer and closer till finally a month after graduation we started dating. What happened to me when I was 8 really impacted my life, for the the abuse lasted for about a year and my older cousin, the one causing the abuse, traumatized me by forcing me not telling anyone. I feel like these actions shaped me into the person I am today, and I'm really proud of that person. I've never told anyone, not even a BFF, but I really want to tell him. We've been dating for 4 months now, is it okay for me to tell him? Or is that a "no no"? Oh and to clarify, my mom, found out, and now my cousin is in jail and he's been there for the past 6 years

I've told my husband all of the abuse I've encountered. In fact, I've told all of my serious boyfriends in the past. I think certain aspects of a person make more sense when you know what they've been through. Like being shy, not wanting to be left alone with men, being clingy because it makes me feel protected, things like that. They've all been understanding & supportive! & also shared their stories of abuse, which happens to men more than you'd think.

I was molested too when I was younger by my older brother. Anyways, i had never told anyone about it. And even to this day my parents don't even know. I had told my boyfriend tho and I'm really glad I did. He sat and held me when I told him about it. I literally cried on his shoulder for like a half an hour 😥. There are certain sexual things that I won't do because of it and my boyfriend is very understanding about it. So yes I would tell your boyfriend. It would be a lot easier once you do and most guys are understanding and will stay away from the things that remind you of it. I was very scared to tell my boyfriend, and he's been in my life since I was 4. It should be easy for me to tell him things! It was so hard to come out and say it, but when I told him he cried and told me he'd never let anything hurt me ever again. It absolutely feels good to get off your chest. It happened when I was 8 and again at 11 for a year. Keeping quiet is all I knew. I happen to see the people who did this to me, on a regular basis. It tears me apart, but I know I have him to help and support me through everything and anything. Only tell him if you are ready and willing. Just know if you choose to tell him or not is completely up to you.

I told my SO. He was glad that I told him. It really helped us grow closer and he knows my limits when it comes to sexual contact. So it really helped by telling him about it. No one ever found out about what happened to me. He is now married and has a family of his own.
