You can't help who you fall for. Who knows if this man could  he the love of your life or not. If its her ex she has no claim over him anymore and she can't  dictate who he or you can or can't date. Common courtesy would be to ask her if she still has feelings for him or not first. If she's moved on then he is fair game. My friend and  I  have dated each others ex before and it didn't affect our friendship at all. My best friend had a crush on my current boyfriend when he asked me  out and I'm so glad I said yes because I'm in love with him almost 3 years  later and we plan on getting  married after we finish college. She knew I liked him a lot too and she  didn't have any hard feelings. She just moved on. We're still best friends and even have an apartment together in college.
