Our wedding day was on New Year's Eve, and to have one last hoorah before the baby came (wasn't due til 1-28-15), yesterday we went to a waterpark resort in the Wisconsin Dells. We checked into the hotel, changed into our swimsuits, then my water broke at 4:45pm, started having contractions around 7pm, went to the hospital around midnight (turns out I was already 7-8cm by that time) and had an unmedicated birth at 4:27am this morning! Placenta came out "dunken presentation" where it didn't flip inside-out, had a few stitches, and had a lot of bleeding with my uterus not contracting back to normal size on its own - this finally resolved after lots of clots were removed and by manually squeezing my uterus from the inside (very painful). Our little guy was 7.1lbs 19 1/3 inches, and has been in NICU with breathing issues since birth, but has steadily been improving after various interventions. Initially put on cpap, but after being increased to 100% oxygen he needed to be sedated for a breathing tube to be installed - now he's at 24% on his own, but still has a device to assist with airflow intake. He also has a "generous sized" heart and liver, which could be due to a later onset of undiagnosed gestational diabetes (I passed the first screening at 28 weeks). His heart echo test came back great with all structures that are supposed to be there present - but had a pda valve still diverting blood away from the lungs that is supposed to change in utero before birth (he was over 3 weeks early). He is improving, and tomorrow morning (about 24 hours after birth) will have the breathing tube removed and cpap put back - they anticipate he'll be in NICU for another 2-3 days, but hopefully we'll get to hold him tomorrow!
