What should my teacher call me?

I am in the process of changing my name. Everyone calls me Jay or Jaythan. My dad  is helping me with this process and is fully supportive. All my teachers, counselor, nurse, friends. But one teacher who had no problem calling me Jay randomly decides because in the computer my name isn't Jay that she shouldnt call me it. The legal way of changing my name is very hard, especially for a minor. I don't reply to my birth name at all. Its like you're calling someone else but my name is not Jay in the system. I put Jay on my paper for work.  When i enrolled here there was a spot for "nickname" and I put Jaythan. I am not trans but our superintendent approves of changing rosters to fit the preferred name, gender of trans students. I am not trans so it should be that hard to just call me Jay.

Unfortunately, this is just the way life goes sometimes. It sounds like your teacher is being stubborn, just for the sake of being stubborn. It would nice is the teacher called you your preferred name, but you really cant make her.

You should be allowed to be called your nickname because that is your preference, but until you change your name... Jobs, schools, government officials/documents, etc will refer to you as your birth name.

My high school always called us by our preferred names. Didn't matter if it was your birth name or a nickname.

Well, my schools always allowed us to choose what we wanted to be called. I don't see what the big deal is. It isn't against the law for your teachers to call you by another name. It won't harm them to call you by another name that is not on your birth certificate. As long as you allow them to call you that name there should be no issue.

My birth name is Cinderella which is just embarrassing for me so I always use Cindy and all my friends, half of my family and my teachers in college even call me Cindy, I think teachers should take into consideration your feelings in what you'd like to be called

Mine isn't as extreme but my name is Nicole but I've ALWAYS gone by Nikki. By the time I was a year old the only person who calls me Nicole is the doctors office, official business things, and my mother. Well I had a teacher who decided everyone would be called by their full names and I just decided not to answer her anyone. She called my name 6 times once and I didn't even look up and some of the other kids were like "Nikki really doesn't like to be called that" and the teacher was just like "Nicole needs to learn that her parents named her this for a reason and legally this is her name" i was in 7th grade. This wasn't a court of law. This was a private school with 20 other kids just trying to learn math. I was pulled aside and talked to and I said I refused to acknowledge any other name. When I got home I told my mom and my parents called the teacher together and told her she will call me by my preferred name because she was not my mother lol. She knocked it off after some yelling from my dad.

If your parents have said given permission to call you Jay, then your teacher has no grounds to stand on. We use nicknames all the time in schools, this is no different.

I don't go by my birth name. I have been called by a nickname ever since I was a baby. I used to get annoyed when teachers didn't call me by my preferred nickname. I got used to responding to my birth name after a while. It's really not that big of a deal.
It's just the one teacher.
