My doctor asked me if I wanted to get induced at 39 weeks... There is no medical reason and I'm only 1cm dilated. Thoughts?

I went to my 38-week appointment this afternoon. I'm only 1cm dilated but the doctor asked if I wanted to be induced this coming Monday!!! There is no medical reason or anything! I told him no. Is this normal or common???

If you really dont want a c section, I WOULDNT do it.. once pitocin hits your blood stream.. you are on the clock to deliver!

Yes alll the way!  I'm due in 2 weeks and am having elective induction next Wednesday.  Me and baby are both ready!

In my opinion it's cause of the holiday. Mine was offering the same but she is still on the fence about it. I am going for it if she offers. But it looks like she might not. Would have been for Monday as well

Yup. They could be going on vacation for the holiday, so sometimes they will offer induction so you won't have to have the on call doctor

I am pretty sure I would do it, but my office doesn't allow you to induce unless you have a medical reason, or you are past 41 weeks...I'm scheduled to induce Monday at 41 weeks.

My Dr asked me the same thing she said she would consider 39 weeks but no later than 41. That was up to me. I told her I rather just let her come when she gets ready. I am currently 38 weeks now and they called me last week and set up an induction date for Dec 7 just in case she don't arrive by then. She told me if I started to get uncomfortable she would work with me on it. Its not such a bad thing unless you are totally uncomfortable and can't deal with it. In have been at a 1 for the last 3 weeks as well.

I'm not due until the 27th... I thought it was a bit odd for him to offer the induction so soon. I'm going for a vaginal birth and everything I read online about inductions it says they have a higher risk for c-sections. I told him no but he scheduled for another appointment on Monday to check me again...

It's pretty common. Just say no if you're not interested.
