membrane sweeping ?

I'm 40 weeks pregnant and I'm wondering if it's a good idea to do the membrane sweep ? How long did it take for the first time moms for it to work if it worked & does it hurt ? Also how long does it take the doctor to do the sweep ?

I am almost 40 weeks my doctor is going to do this tomorrow as well as my second cervical exam. My body is going into "false labor" but can't go into early or active labor on its own apparently. I've been dilated for weeks and not sure if there is progress. My sister had the same doctor I have for both my niece and nephew, she said it takes a few seconds to do the sweep. After she said you cramp a lot, tend to bleed or spot from it which is all normal. But it could take a few hours, or 1-2 days to go into labor if your body is ready. Does not always work for everyone or the first time around. I may opt to do this only because I'm trying to avoid induction which I will have to schedule anyhow because I'm sure he isn't coming on time. If you are trying to avoid being induced as well you can try the sweep or just wait to see if your body can naturally go into labor.

i got mine swept at 38+4 and had my daughter 14 hours later! it immediately got things going for me.
