NICU baby, labor story
I wanted a natural birth with a mobile and active labor, no pitocin, no epidural, with delayed cord clamping and immediate skin to skin... that was such wishful thinking
Went to be induced Sunday 11/13 at 10p, at 40+3. Gestational diabetic.
I didn't realize that if I got induced they wouldn't let me move from the bed except to use the bathroom.
Long story shortish
Given cervix pill at 3a 11/14
Another at 7a
Dr. broke water at 10a
Contractions started
Progressed from a 1 to a 3 in dilation on my own, then they gave me pitocin
The pitocin was too much
Contractions were a minute a apart and dilated to a 4, I was miserable
Got an epidural
The epidural made my blood pressure drop dangerously low
Got oxygen
Baby's heart kept going up and down
Got a fever toward end of labor
Baby born 12:39a 11/15
Had baby vaginally
7lbs 3oz, 21 inches long
Hour and a half of pushing
1 degree tear, 1 stitch
Baby had fever from infected water, and cord around neck
Wasn't able to hold him after birth, they had to take him to NICU immediately
Has to be on antibiotics for at least 48hrs
I'm doing good
He's doing good
He came off oxygen today 11/16
Still on iv, but they're weaning him off
Pumping for a little colostrum
Started supplementing with formula today
Basically every 3 hours I go attempt to breastfeed and do skin to skin and feed him
Then I come back to my room and pump for 30 mins, attempt to sleep when I can.
It's been rough but we're getting through it.
Not the labor and delivery I wanted, but I'm glad we're all okay. It's almost Thursday and we've been here since Sunday. I'm so ready to get my baby home.
