the umbilical cord stopped pumping blood
I went into my 37 week check up and my fundal height was only measuring 35 (I was always measuring a week ahead) and then the dr couldn't get a good heart beat. The dr hooked me up for a stress test to check the heartbeat but said not to worry about the fundal height because the baby could just be in a funky position but that we would do an ultrasound just in case. The heart rate wouldn't regulate it stayed between 110 and 120 and then would randomly jump to 140 before falling to the 90's. I was then sent for an ultrasound and my baby was only measuring 33 weeks and around 4.5lbs so they sent me back to my doctor's. My dr then brings me back and tells me that the ultrasound showed that the blood in the umbilical cord has almost stopped flowing and that she is malnourished because of it. They wanted me to go home and grab my bag and then check in to the hospital to be induced. So I wait for my husband to get home and we head to the hospital. I check in and get my vitals then I get the monitor hooked up and the induction Meds started and that is wheny baby's heart rate dropped to the 80's and I heard a nurse tell the other to call and get the OR ready. The dr then comes in and tells me that we can try to continue the induction but she is certain it will turn into an emergency c section if we don't go now so I gave my consent for the c section.
I gave birth to a beautiful 4lb 13oz baby girl 2 hours after getting to the hospital. She was 18 inches long and did not end up in the nicu or even needing oxygen.
We found out that the umbilical cord was a lot shorter than it should of been and so twisted that the dr compared it to when you twist and stretch a washcloth to wring it out.
