wen can babies start watching educational shows?

My baby is almost 6 weeks and he loves to sit up and watch tv with me I was wondering do they really understand stuff like tv shows yet ? And is it to early to start educational shows?

Depends on who you ask.

American academy of pediatrics recommends no screen time until age 2. I have three kids. For the most part, we follow that rule. Minimum 18 months with no screen time in my house

According to the AAP, them watching TV under 2 does not have any developmental benefits and can actually be harmful. This applies to all screen time and media even if it's labeled as educational. Them watching TV can also take away time they could be spending having face to face interactions with adults and doing hands on activities that help their development. I used to let my son watch 15-30 minutes of TV a day but stopped when I found this out. Instead we listen to music, go outside, do tummy time or read books.

If must, less than 30 mins a day. But best to wait until 2.
