How can you be sceptical about it? It is logical that once the egg is released it can be fertalized for around 24 hours, after that it is done. You cant get pregnant after that certain amount of time that egg can live passed. What would sperm fertalize, uterus? 
Now when you have sex and when you actually get pregnant can be different. You can have unprotected sex 5 days before ovulation and still get pregnant on ovulation day because his sperm survived in you for 5 days.  :)

It is true. Actually it goes as far as there's only 6 days during any given cycle when you can get pregnant. The 5 days before ovulation (because sperm can live in you that long)  and the day of, reason being that's the only time the egg can be fertilized. It's science! I suggest doing research :)
