Why wait till 5 months.

Question

So i had my first prenatal appointment but they gave me a first sonogram till im 5 months pregnant. Isn't that too long to wait? I think ill wait till mid of December and go find somewhere they could do it to see if the baby is okay. I want to check at 10 weeks. I had a miscarriage thats why i want to know early.

With mine you get one 8-12 weeks to check on baby and at 20 weeks for anatomy scan. That's odd they only do one!

I didn't get one until 20 weeks and I don't get another one. A lot of doctor's don't do a lot of ultrasounds. I wish I could get more just because I want to see my baby more, but they won't do another ultrasound unless they believe there's a problem. I knew when my last period was and stuff for sure, so I didn't get an early dating scan like some people do. Just an anatomy scan!

I find that kind of weird because my doctor does a little mini ultrasound at almost every appointment, although I only had two where they printed out pictures for me (I'll be 39 weeks on Friday)

It might be totally up to your insurance.  My insurance only covers two ultrasounds

They should've put you in the high risk category because you had a M/C.  I was High risk for other health problems and I had a sono once a month from 5 weeks, because I didn't know how far along I was.  You need one at 12 for the down syndrome check, at least before the 20week one.

They wanted my first one at 13 weeks. And I expressed concern because I'd had a miscarriage between 10 and 12 last time. So they did an early scan and then one at 12 weeks for neural tube. And then I get my next one at 20 weeks for anatomy (week from Monday).

Explain to them WHY and your anxiety. If they don't listen and still won't give you one GET A BETTER OB/MIDWIFE. Being happy and comfortable with your doctor is IMPORTANT

They should do one around 9-12 weeks and then another around 20 weeks for the anatomy scan. That does sound odd that they would just do the one. Most people get those two, and sometimes another around 32 weeks. I'm surprised they didn't do one to confirm pregnancy/growth. Weird.

Ask for it, if they refuse go elsewhere and pay for it just for your own comfort and reassurance.. I can't blame you for not wanting to wait that long either.. they always give me a sonogram and they measure her thoroughly

That's a little strange to me. I would definitely push for one and if they won't, go elsewhere. I thought that a neuchal translucency ultrasound test was standard and that's around 11 weeks or so.  At least an early one to establish whether it is multiples. Potentially you could have been carrying twins but not have found out until 5mo. (this is probably an old post, so I hope that you have resolved things by now). Best of luck.

I would look for another doctor. Ive had a few ultrasounds already and Im 15 weeks. My doctor readily gave me one bc she knew I was worried bc I had a mc in May.  I had another at the er because I had bleeding after sex and they checked and baby was okay on ultrasound. Definitely find a good doctor who will do it if it will put peace on your heart and mind

Why wait till 5 months.
