huge diaper bags?

Is it me or are most of the diaper bags out there HUGE?  I had registered for one and someone was kind enough to get it for me, I love the color and pockets etc, but it seems giant!  Like it wouldn't be practical to carry when we are just out running a couple errands.  Am I missing something?  I know babies have a lot of gear, but I would assume you would just need a change or two of clothes, diapers, wipes, rash cream, maybe a bottle or two, blanket.  Maybe a book or toy...  do you really need a BIG diaper bag for baby?  Is there stuff that goes in there that I am not accounting for?

I thought the same thing until I actually had a baby. We have diapers, wipes, extra clothes, a blanket, a burp rag. A travel size lotion bottle and hand sanitizer, a paci. Important papers my wallet and phone of course. And I always carry a water bottle for me and it fits too. I breast feed so I don't carry bottles but if your baby is Formula fed you need to fit those too. Then when they're older books or toys.... I mean you don't HAVE to carry it. If I'm at the store or something I leave it in the car. But it's good to have things in case of accidents or you're at a friend or families house longer than expected.

Girl I bring everything lol I hate to not have an extra outfit or diaper when baby poops in the middle of target trip.. so for me, the bigger the better!!

The one I got was huge too. I kind of forgot how big they are were with #1 (6 years ago) but I remember his was always full 😑. The thing I made sure of this time is too get a bag that was light on its own as with #1, I had a leather bag and it was heavy even empty. I didn't really carry the bag itself a lot with #1. It was either hanging on the stroller or in the car. The bag I got this time has 2 "pods" in it (one for changing and one for food) that can also be attached on the stroller on their own or just grabbed for quick errands. When baby gets bigger, you won't need as much stuff and we used to use a toddler backpack for his stuff and I thought the diaper bag could be used for overnight stays at grandparents or for travel.

I have an Eddie Bauer backpack but i feel like it's too big? If I'm just running to the store or something quick all I grab is a couple diapers, wipes and a burp cloth for drool and shove them in my purse. If we go to church or something where it's a few hours I'll take more stuff and use the diaper backpack but it's usually still only half full

Yeah, honestly, all the stuff you list will pretty much fill up a diaper bag. In mine I have about 4 diapers, a travel thing of wipes, a pouch with spare outfit/wet bag/burp cloths, a bottle cooler that fits 2 bottles, a pacifier pod, a bib, and 2-3 toys. Nothing crazy or unreasonable. And it is FULL. The front pocket has my wallet, keys, phone, lip balm, Kleenex, etc so I don't have to carry a purse.

When you have a baby, there's no such thing as a 10-minute errand, sorry. 😁 It's really not a big deal once you're used to it, though. I love my huge diaper bag. I know I always have whatever I need.

If I'm going anywhere without the baby, I'll switch my wallet and stuff into a regular purse.

I have a backpack, its  Marc Jacobs backpack given as a gift and its so much more practical. Im completely hands free to hold my baby or push a stroller.

I'm not a big fan of the busy diaper bags that I've seen, so when I stumbled upon this cute reversible CK bag I thought "Jackpot!" I just ordered an inset for it that'll keep everything organized so I can use a smaller bag if I need to.

You don't need one that is extremely big just get one you can fit all of the nessecities in! I just spilt sweet tea all over my original diaper bag so I had to switch to one of my nice size coach bags and I love it even more lol fit comfortably diapers, wipes, nursing blanket, receiving blanket, boogie wipes, extra clothes, bows, socks, mosquito net, first aid kit, water bottle, toys and my little poutch of mommy stuff! Get one that suits you don't buy a big and bulky one if you don't think you'll need it!

Oh and a changing pad lol

You will need it. Trust.  I ended up using mine as both baby and me... that way one bag was enough.  I bought a medium sized wristlet to store my cards , cash and keys in then put it right in the diaper bag with babies stuff!
