Was I offensive?

I've always been a tad bit of a oim boy and people mistake me for being a lesbian all the time. No hate or shame, im just not. Started a new job and made a few friends and a coworker said hi to me in passing and I said, "Sup Homie." Than a coworker (African American) turned around and said, "That's racist!" I responded with, "What is?.." She than got an attitude with me and said. "Don't be calling people "Homies " like you from the hood, chick!" And walked off. I'm almost 30 and have never had anyone say this about me. Another coworker who has dated her for years told me she's crazy and that she's dramatic and none of his friends or family like her.
Was I really offensive by calling my friend homie? Also side note, I don't say it in a ghetto tone and I've been saying this since I was 13..
