36 weeks and big baby?

So i was told my baby is measuring at 7lb and very close to being too big for his age 😱

I was told my baby was measuring big too. They estimated 8-9 lbs! I was so scared to give birth, since my first was only 6 lbs and it was the worst pain of my life and I had a 2nd degree tear! I got induced at 39 weeks and my baby was almost 9 lbs!!! They were right on point!! But this time around, labor was so much easier and almost painless! And I didn't tear  this time, which surprised me because my 6lb baby did and not my almost 9 lb baby!

I am in the same position. I am 40w1d today and since 28 weeks I have been measuring 2 weeks ahead. She has finally slowed down on her growing and we are only measuring 42 weeks like it was at our last appointment at 39 weeks. We were thinking I was going to have to have a c section but since she has come to the end we think a vaginal birth is still a huge possibility! Trust me, I was nervous! Extremely scared but sometimes the sonograms can be off a pound or 2!

I know it's hard not to get panicked over the possibility of a big baby, but there are two things that are important to keep in mind. One is that estimates of babies weight before birth are truly just estimates - they can be off by up to 3 pounds. The other thing is that it's the mother's genetic material that largely determines the size of the baby at birth - so it's very rare for a baby to be too big for his/her mother to safely deliver. That would be about a 9 pounder at birth! :) they say babies gain half a pound per week!
