So this may be a dumb question but is it alright to wear a tampon over night, I only just swapped over from pads so I'm not really sure

no , i rather wear tampons during the day than at night. at night you should definitely wear a pad.

It's not going to kill you. You're likely to get tss from wearing them for 12+ hours. It's from the blood on the tampon starting to rot and the bacteria entering your bloodstream. That takes a fair old while. I always slept in mine and was fine.

I always have worn them over night and never had a problem. Change it right before bed and right when you wake up and you should be fine.

You're supposed to change it every 6hrs max to avoid TSS so that's why they suggest not wearing them overnight. If you think you'll wake up and change it during the night then go for it, but avoid sleeping in or leaving it in for periods or 6+hrs.
