Pros and Cons to inducing?

I was just wondering some of your opinions on being induced. I have been thinking about it due to the fact I'm due at the beginning on February and I live an hour and a half away from the hospital. FTM and just curious!

Hit up Google - if inducing isn't medically necessary most docs won't do it because it increases the chance of complications like a C section and also increases risk to the baby

I was induced, but I was 10 days overdue. It was a good experience but i wonder if it was because I was so far past my due date. I personally never would have scheduled an induction before or right at my due date. I've heard and read that it is better to let your body start the whole process naturally. There's a good chance you'll end up with a c section if you have an induction like that.

Also, I'm a little over an hour from my hospital too. I know a lot of women who live around me, went into labor and made it to the hospital with more than enough time. The advice they gave me was to make sure and leave early when labor starts, don't try to labor at home a lot . One said it's hard riding in the car that long when your almost fully dilated. (She showered, packed her bag, dried hair, etc before going with her 2nd. She barely made it bc she waited hours to start the drive up there. She said her first took so long, she thought she had more time.)

Induced labor is not something you can choose. There's always a reason. I had to be induced at 37 weeks because my daughter stopped moving because her cold was wrapped around her neck in my tummy :(

In Indiana you can induce at 39 weeks. I was induced at 39+4. My BP had been high but was finally under control, so we decided to induce before there was another issue. Baby was sunny side up and stuck under my public bone. 27 hrs of labor and pushing and we had an emergency c section bc his heart rate kept dropping w every push. That's when we figured out he was stuck. I really believe we would've had the same situation even if I would've waited another week or two and it had nothing to do w the induction. My dr agrees. The actual induction experience was great. My water broke on it's own at only 3 cm and I progressed slowly (bc he was stuck and not dropping properly) but it was nice to have a plan and a date. If I had to do it over, I probably would've waited until I was past my due date just to see if he would've come on his own, but I was really scared of having another emergency situation with my high BP so who knows. Induced labor was absolutely horrible. Pitocin is horrific and forces false, extremely painful contractions that for me were triple contractions. I refuse to ever be induced again unless 100% medically necessary. Watch "The business of being born"'it's a real eye opener.

I was induced at 40+1 and had the easiest, smoothest labor I could've hoped for. I only needed Cervidil, no pitocin. The only con came from the epidural, I had to have a catheter for 24 hours next day as I couldn't pee on my own.

I would never choose to be induced unless medically necessary. I was induced due to gd and didn't have the best of labours.

From what I have seen induced labor tends to be harder on mamma and baby. I have heard it compared to someone starting a trek up Mt Everest. The hiker is planning, training, and preparing. Mapping out how far it takes to get to the "base camps" and sorting out every technical detail of the adventure. 
When you are induced it's like grabbing that hiker with nothing but the clothes on his back and saying "Come, now, you have to climb the whole mountain right now." And setting him off at a forced march with no breaks. It causes distress and, likely, an emergent situation where the hiker has to be evacuated.

I know lots of mammas ARE induced with little to no issue, but I think it makes the whole process more painful and long-lasting than it needs to be simply because your body isn't ready and you are medically forcing it to give birth.

I also understand it is necessary at times, but I personally think it is over prescribed.

I was induced but I was four cm dilated and having zero labor signs. I was also two weeks overdue.

It was a breeze and almost entirely painless. My labor was crazy short, too. I had no cons, only pros.
