I know it's going to sound iggnorant, but I'm new at this and I keep seeing it. What's a chemical?

A chemical pregnancy?
It usually refers to a miscarriage, where you were just pregnant enough for the hormones to turn a pregnancy test positive, but too early to see anything via ultrasound. When the baby is visible via ultrasound, it is called a "clinical" pregnancy.
