second hand car seat?

I've been offered a car seat from a friend. I know it's a good, expensive car seat, but it's about 4 years old and I know it hasn't been in any accidents. It will obviously safe me a lot of money but if it would be unsafe I can get a brand new one

Would it be ok to use this or would it be unsafe? Thoughts please

Car seats and mattresses are two things I would honestly say you should get new if you can 
And it's honestly appalling how expensive infant car seats are!

They have expiration dates. If you are going to take it make sure the car seat is not expired.

I'm a car seat tech in saskatchewan. We never recommend used car seats but if you know the history of it, it's coming from someone you know well, it's in good shape and not expired, it's probably fine to use. Just don't get a used seat from a stranger!

Nope. Plastic warps in heat and frailes in cold. Buy a new one. That is one thing you should have new.

It's the Only think I told my husband I will not budge on a new car seat.

I would not use it . You don't really know it's history and I'm sure the warranty is long gone

You will want to check the expiration date, and ask if the cover or straps have ever been washed, before you use it.

Car seats expire every 5 years !!!!

My mother in law got our car seat and stroller used From people she knew. It's like brand new and like it was never used and we called the manufacturers to make sure it wasn't recalled or expired. As long as you know for sure it wasn't in an accident and that it's not expired or recalled it should be perfectly fine.
