Normal to not change your last name?

Question

So I've been married since August, my husband knows I don't really want to go through the process to legally change my last name and he doesn't care, but his family really thinks I need to change it. Is there anyone out there who kept their maiden name? Or is that weird?

I know lots of women who didn't change their names. I did change mine, and it really wasn't a hassle. The change was free and I only paid for a new drivers license, but mine was about to expire anyways.

It's really not hard to do. I'd decide what you actually want & then do that, not just do nothing out of laziness. I personally changed mine because I want kids & want us all to have the same last name.

I lived in Iceland for 8 years where they've never had a tradition for women changing their name. So, I'm not changing my name

My sister kept hers I didn't. My husband was not ok with me not changing it he felt it was important. It was really easy to change it's not really a legal name change

It's not weird at all. More and more Western women are keeping their last names.

I have been with my husband for 19 years, married for 4, and we I did not take his name. I like my name just fine the way it is, and if he doesn't care that's all that mTters.

It is NOT weird! Just not very common. I kept my last name for a few years while I took time to decide what I wanted. I ended up keeping my last name and adding his. It was a good option for me (and him! He was so supportive and wanted me to be happy.) and I am happy with what I decided. That is the most important part of the decision: that you are both happy and neither of you feel stuck.

I changed mine. However I actually know a handful of women who go by their married name but never legally changed it. If your husband is okay with you not changing it, then fine. His family shouldn't have a say in the matter.

When hubby and I got married he took my name. I wanted to keep my surname and hubby said he felt no emotional connection to his surname due to not being raised by his parents so he offered to change it.

Not taking your husbands name is a really common thing these days and I don't see anything wrong with it if that's what people chose to do. I took my husbands name as to me it's respectful and when we have children I want to share their last name so we can all be the Flesher family instead of me having a different name
