Have to be referred to Specialist?!

Just wondering if you see a fertility specialist or RE.. Did you have to be referred from your gynecologist or could you just make your own appointment? 
Considering seeing a specialist this coming year but not sure how to tell my gyno.

All depends on your insurance. I decided to start seeing a specialist after only 6 months of tic. With my insurance it does not require referrals so I just made my apt. After just having the consultation I feel way better there then How I felt after seeing my Gyno and going through two rounds of clomid with him. The specialist monitor you way more to figure what your body needs vs my Gyno was just like ok that didn't get you ovulate lets up the dose. And he just kept saying to me "yup women with PCOS are tough". Not very incouraging.

I was referred by my OBGYN. I was disheartened at first and felt like something is wrong with me but now I'm on my second cycle and 90% of the stress is gone. Being able to see what's going on in ultrasounds and trigger my ovulation when a follicle is ready makes me feel at ease. 😊 best of luck to you!

I was also referred by my gyno after a year. I don't see the harm in contacting a specialist yourself. It will make the process faster.

I was referred by my general practitioner after a year of infertility. I just started going back to the fertility doctor last month to try for our second and did not need a referral. Might be best to call and see if a referral is needed, sometimes insurance needs a referral to pay for the visit.
