Video games

So my boyfriend has a PS4 and XB1 but my 10 year old son isn't allowed to play because it's his game and he claim he doesn't want it broke. He's 10 not 4 and he's had a ps4 before but when I relocated a lot got left. I feel like he's being selfish and ridiculous because I can play if I want to but I hate video games and to be honest I would mess it up before my son would I know NOTHING about game systems. Am I being unreasonable or is he being a jerk. I just don't feel I should buy the same system just for my son to play we live in the same house!
