6 month old not saying things like Mama, Baba, or Dada yet. Is that ok?

Although my six-month-old babbles ALL the time and sometimes there are consonant sounds, he doesn't really say things like mama or dada yet.   Is this normal? Should he be stringingg together consonants already?

I'm a pediatric speech therapist, and it is totally normal for babies not to be saying any "words" yet. Babies typically start to babble at this age, like mamamamama, gagagaga, babababa, without specific meaning and many ppl think that first words are being said. Most babies say their first words between 9-14 months and at 12ish months it is typical for babies to have about 5ish words besides mama and dada. As long as your baby is making sounds, responding to noises, etc, it's all progressing normally. My advice to you is to talk talk talk to your baby! :) Hope that helps!!!

My son doesn't say mama or dada yet either and he'll be 7 months next week. I'm not too worried.

Yeah I'm pretty sure that's normal. My 7 month old only says maaaaa. 90% of the time I don't think he's even trying to say mom.... one day they will be talking so much we will just want them to be quiet 😂😂

My 7.5 month old only says dadda, not very regularly either. BUT she's nearly walking 😂 it's true what they say, baby's learn at their own pace and there is nothing wrong with that. Don't worry everything is fine!

My lo will only say dadadada sometime.  Mostly when she is at my MIL house. I think it's cute because she is calling her dadadada to come pick her up. I know it's hard to not to worry but as long as babies are doing everything by a year and a half or so they are fine.  Babys learn at their own pace.
