Sidecar Cosleeper - Work for anyone?

A

Desperate mom here. My baby is 1 week old and can't get her to sleep in her bassinet for the life of me. I need sleep and can't get it unless baby sleeps on my chest - Which obviously isn't safe... 😔. Her bassinet is just a regular flat bed - she doesn't have rockers or swings or anything like that so that we wouldn't have to struggle with the transition from bassinet to crib. I'm finding she hates sleeping alone in the bassinet though... Basically I'm looking into options. We already have her crib and I'm considering making it into a sidecar rather than try a new bassinet or sleep with her in our bed (I'm not comfortable doing that even with the safe sleep guidelines). Coincidentally our crib is the exact same one used in this picture as a side car. I wanted to know if doing this actually helped some parents get sleep compared to using just a bassinet? I was also contemplating using the toddler rail from this crib in the sidecar set up to add an extra divider for sleeping but also make it easy access to put baby in and out while breastfeeding at night (The bassinet - which I borrowed from my sister - is raised fairly high and the topmost part of the rail reaches about a foot above our mattress height which makes it difficult to put baby in and pull out throughout the night).

Anyone do this and have any luck or thoughts?
