What do I do?

So, I'm heading into my last semester of my sophomore year in college, I did two years of undergrad & I had to declare my major; now that I declared I'm having second thoughts about it & I'm very upset. (I made an appointment with the career services / therapist thing) I know people change their majors but I'm really feeling like I wasted my first two years & it's too late. Now I am a prefectionist who doesn't give myself enough credit for anything. I have no idea what to do or think.

Think about it this way, you "wasted" 2 years of your life, doing something you don't like-- are you willing to "waste" the rest of your working life-- 40+ years-- working in this field of study if you don't like it?

Never feel ashamed for knowing what will make you happy and having the balls to say "fuck societal conventions" and going after it.

If you think you could be happy in this Major for the rest of your life, that's one thing; but if you know you'll be happier is another one, then don't hesitate and go after that one.

If you're worried about money, which is a legitimate concern that I understand, then maybe go to a community college for the first 2 years of the new major/degree you want, and then switch to a university for the last 2 years so that you can get a legitimate university degree.

(Btw, I never think experience is a waste, that schooling has helped you to know that you don't like that Major.)

I know how you feel. I'm in the same boat. I took two years to decide what I wanted to do then changed my mind and ended up staying in college for another year. I've finally made it to my last semester and I'm not sure I've made the right decision either. You've done more than I have though. I need to make an appointment with my career advisor. I think that you're on the right track by going to them. They'll at least be able to give you some guidance.

It's okay. You could be like me and be one semester away from graduating with a degree in criminal justice. Then change it to education and it takes two more years. (Super senior here)

I promise you that EVERY COLLEGE STUDENT wasted their first 2 years. Even if they never changed their majors, the first 2 years is like a review of high school.  But I changed my major as well.  Which totally shocked me because I have always known what I wanted to be.  But that changed, and it's okay for it too.  It's so hard to be able to decide what you want to do with your whole life at 18, or even 20.  4 years will be nothing when you live the rest of your life doing something you love.  So don't worry if it puts you back a little bit.  It's better than staying in those classes and doing something you hate forever.
