Am i pregnant?

So my period is ten days late. I tested to check if I was pregnant it and the result was negative. But my friend's told me of other people who have tested negative and they only came to find out they were pregnant when it was to late like a few months later. Could I be in the same situation. Please note that I had taken some herbal birth control pills before.
