what would you do if you caught your 7 year old daughter taking a sip of your wine?

I came in the kitchen and caught her sipping some of my wine last night. I just scolded her and sent her to bed. How else should I have handled it? I was just in shock! I haven't told her dad yet. I plan on speaking with him and her when he picks her up this evening.

Sounds like my four year old! Haha. My boyfriend bought a bottle of wine and I told her "Don't drink this because it's for grown ups. If you drink it, Its going to make you sick."
My daughter then replied, "Well I'm already sick sooooooooooo." I was like "Just don't drink it!" 😂😂😩 Lol. Kids are something else!

It was simple curiosity.  I think you completely overreacted! It's one thing to say "you shouldn't have taken something without asking" but making alcohol taboo is only likely to make her want to try it more as she gets older and hide it from you when she does. My children are 13, 10 and 8 and have all tried a mouthful of wine in my presence with xmas dinner.  We didn't make a big deal of it but we have spoken to all children in detail about the many dangers alcohol can pose and taught that moderation and being sensible is the key. I wouldn't allow a child to try spirits as I think they are too strong but a small taste of wine/beer will not hurt. In France it is common for children to have wine with their evening meal and again they are taught the importance of moderation. Here in the uk it is legal for a child to have alcohol in the home with a meal as long as this is not to the extent that the child is intoxicated, ie. Only a quarter glass with food.

I doubt she enjoyed it. Just sounds like natural curiosity. My dad let me and my sister so his beer when we were young knowing we were all talk and wouldn't like it. No harm. I probably would have just walked in and been like, "so what do you think? You like it?". If they said yes I might have a more serious conversation with them, but no not scold and send away.

I grew up in an immigrant Italian household, so it was common for children to have a small amount of wine at dinner. I didn't care for it, so I would usually sneak it to my younger brother. (Your uncle made that wine, so refusing it was as rude as refusing dinner)

When my brother was about 6 years old, he had friends over and my mom caught him tapping one of the barrels to offer them all wine (since that's what he always saw the adults doing for houseguests).

Right now, my 4 year old thinks that caffeine and alcohol are the same thing. I let her try a sip of black coffee once (which she obviously hated), and now if I describe something as "an adult drink", she wrinkles up her nose and says "caffeine is only yummy for grown-ups".

Just keep it out of reach and remind her not to take sips of other people's drinks.

When I was about that age, my pop and my dad's beer were on the same table and guess which one I accidentally took a huge gulp out of? You got it, some nasty beer!  I learned to stay away from that for sure! I'd say at that age it's just curiosity. Just a scolding should do. No need to get panties in a bunch over it.

I would tell her little girl that drink, grow hairs on their chest like daddy 😂😂 no, but just explain to her that she shouldn't drink adult beverages.. if she doesn't know what it is, she needs to ask first! Explain to her that alcohol has effects only ADULTS can handle.

She's was just being a kid if they their parents drinking something of course she is going to try and try it .. I would have jsyt said calmly that's only for adults don't take a drink of something that's not yours .. it's not even a big deal

My son has always been interested in wine and beer. His gpa drinks beer pretty regularly and I drink wine atleast once a week. He's tasted both, he's seven. He understands that it's for grown ups and he can't have it until he's a grown up. Honestly though at 16 he will be allowed to drink wine on special dinner occasions. I'm more worried about keeping him away from cigarettes.

Around that same age I took a big gulp of what I thought was grape drink and it was red wine 🍷. It was DISGUSTING and from then on I didn't drink out of my parents glasses. It definitely wasn't ingested intentionally.
