frozen breast milk?

Hey girls,

So I have a huge stash in the freezer but I'm getting super discouraged because it seems like my lo is put off by the frozen milk!

I thawed some yesterday (she's been cluster feeding and sometimes a bottle just saves us both some tears at 12 am!) but she would make this face of disgust when I'd give her the bottle and spit the nipple out. I also noticed it has an odor of freezer burn (although it is stored properly in breast milk freezer bags). I read this smell can be caused by an enzyme that breaks down milk fat.

Has anyone else experienced this? Can I expect her to always respond like that? Anything I can do going forward? You know how valuable this stuff is- id hate to waste it!

My daughter was like this! She got over it after a few days. I would just keep giving it to her and she eventually took it. I started out using the milk I just pumped and mixed a little with the milk I had thawed. It did have sort of a weird smell, but my midwife says the get like that, especially the longer they are frozen! Are you making it warm enough for her when you are putting it in the bottle? I know my LO was picky in the beginning about that :)

It's probably high lipase. Get some alcohol free vanilla extract and put a bit in to see if she'd take it?

The same thing happened to my milk but it was so sour that my LO wouldn't take it at all. I had to defrost random dates to figure out when my milk turned which is up to 1 month frozen. Unfortunately I had to toss everything older than 1 month out 😭😭😭 or like someone else said you can scald the milk before you freeze it. It's heating up the milk right before it starts to boil.

What about when another person gives her the bottle. My DD is more picky when I give her a bottle than with other people.
