pharmacy gave me a different bc?

hey everyone!

recently i had to switch birth control pills because of severe problems with anxiety and depression, so my doctor prescribed me sprintec. when i went to pick up the new pack of pills today, they gave me a different one, mononessa. are sprintec and mononessa under the same brand, or did the pharmacy just give me a generic so they could call it a day?

(also, ive been reading the reviews of mononessa online, and they're not too great. plus one of its side effects is depression and i really don't want to play that game again 😖)

It's always a possibility to have depression as a side effect with any hormonal birth control. Not sure about the prescription though. I would call or go back to the pharmacy if you can and ask. Most of the time they will be able to tell you if your doctor put in a different prescription. I have had this happen to a friend before. Doctors are supposed to inform you, if not have a conversation with you about switching brands. Sometimes they just do it anyways. It may have been a cheaper brand at the time. They may have figured it wouldn't matter if it is close enough to the pill you take now. If the pharmacist can't help call your doctor.

It's the same thing only generic.  Pharmacies often default to the generic bc often that's what your insurance will cover (or provides free with US health care) if you go brand name it might not be covered or might no be free.  You'd likely need to specify with your pharmacy when filling that you want the brand name
