Labor out if state?!

So this is a insurance related issue. I'm in Maryland with family and I'll be staying for Christmas and probably New Years, I'm 36+weeks and due Jan 13. I have medicaid in Ny and so I'm curious, what if I so happen to go into labor here and can't travel back? Would my Ny insurance be able to cover it since it's an out of state emergency?

Definitely call them and ask. The only people able to give you a full, 100% correct answer is a representative from NY Medicaid. You don't want to trust anyone on here with the answer and then find yourself in a world of trouble if something does happen!

Possibly not...which is why it's not recommended to travel. But you'd have to ask your insurance.

Medicaid is tricky- most of the time it doesn't cover out of state services unless you're at a facility that's within a certain number of miles from the border of the state that holds the medicaid. I only deal with elective stuff though, not emergencies, and the rules vary by state and not all hospitals take medicaid either. 
I'd call your case manager and talk it over to see if they can give you any insight.

When I traveled out of state the insurance company had me look on their site and I could see what hospitals would accept the insurance

My Medicaid covers me in surrounding states, but definitely call and the number on the back of your card and check. Every state is different

It'd be best to call them and ask. I'd assume though since it'd be an emergency then they should. However if you're only dilated to 1 and have hours if not days before baby comes then they might not.
