teething necklaces ?

I just ordered a amber teething necklace for my baby. What's everyone's experience with using them ? Are they worth it ?

Honestly they freak me out. I'm not putting anything with small beads in my son's mouth. In my head, I just see one bead with a crack in it, him gnawing down and suddenly he's choking.

They are quite dangerous and illegal to sell here (UK)  because they breach safety regulations.  They are choking and strangulation hazards and there is no reliable scientific evidence that they do any good (anecdotes aren't reliable scientific evidence).

I bought one for my first child. I was always worried about leaving it on him. So I would always take it off. When he napped and such. So I don't know if they actually work since I didn't leave it long for a long enough period of time. I think it can take a few days to start working... anyway I ended up just selling it. Don't plan on using one for the second baby. I know someone that's baby died from being strangled by sleeping with one on.

My niece inserted one bead into her nostril and kept on crying and scratching her nose for 10-15 minutes when we took her to the doctor in emergency and luckily he took it out easily with no other complications.. so anything with beads is a big No No for me since then..
