UPDATE: from mucus plug question to preterm labor????

So earlier today I posted about whether I was losing my mucous plug. There was no bloody show. Just yellowish guck. The night before I had really sharp pains, but they were not consistent. They went away. I also felt a heaviness. Then a few twinges this morning.

I called my doc to ask if this is normal. She told me I should come in to pick up an order to go to an imaging center for an ultrasound. When I got there, she said she wanted to check me out, and said he discharge could be hormonal.  After doing a cervical check, she made some discouraging sounds as she was thinking out loud. Then she performed a transvaginal ultrasound and concluded that my cervix is opening. She said if I get to the hospital they can give me some medicine to keep him in longer, or they could keep me overnight.

I could have my baby at 27 weeks.  I am so nervous. I want him to stay in longer. Never mind that we have no clothes, no bassinet, nothing. We had a plan. We had a baby shower scheduled. I just feel in shock and confused.

I take comfort in that God is not surprised; and I am praying for my son and I just have so much hope.

Try not to freak out! I started having preterm labor symptoms and had been sent to the L&D a handful of times for contractions. They gave me medicine to stop the contractions, steroid shots for my son's lungs to develop faster just in case and then I was put on modified bed rest. I was lucky and my son waited until 39 weeks to finally make his appearance after my water broke. Modern medicine is a beautiful thing! Rest and no stress is key (easier said than done I know!)

Wow. I'm so sorry for that but it's a good thing you went in. As difficult as I know it is, try to calm down. They may be able to stop them. It happened to me with my 1st at 30 weeks. I was dilated and was having contractions. They stopped them and had me on steroid shots for his lungs. I was referred to a maternofetal specialist and was told to limit activity (I couldn't walk for long distances or exercise) until 36 weeks. I ended up carrying him till 3 days before his due date and now he's a healthy 6 year old. Keep thinking positive. You caught it early and modern medicine is on your side. Good luck!
