Sex after ectopic surgery

I had surgery to remove an ectopic pregnancy along with my left tube almost 2 weeks ago. I am feeling completely back to normal, healed wounds, and i expect bleeding/spotting to be gone by tomorrow. Doc said no sex for 6 weeks, but everything i can find says thats to avoid pregnancy again too early. Is intercourse safe with contraception? SO is weird and we hardly had sex since the time i found out i was pregnant on the 1st. (Hes worried about my health, i know) but I'm ready. Any advice or similar experience??
