rent in California

Is it tough to pay bills when your rent is 1/3 of your shared income? I'm super scared. We make about 4,500 a month (don't judge us we're just starting out lol) and want a house for 1,500. I'm scared but we have a 5 month old and only want to live in a good neighborhood.
