Is it unreasonable to ask family/friends to wash hands before holding 6week old baby?

My husband says I'm unreasonable for asking family and friends to wash hands before holding our 6 week old baby. Opinions?

No way! I carried a big bottle of hand sanitizer in my diaper bag & had everyone who wanted to touch/hold my daughter to use some beforehand.

No it's not. Your baby is too young for most vaccinations and family and friends could unknowingly be carrying germs and expose your baby to bacteria his body can't fight off yet. Whooping cough and the flu can be transmitted to newborns much easier than most people think. All you have to say is you don't want baby getting sick by accident.

I've never asked anyone to wash their hands or anything, not even when my baby was brand-new. But then I'm not really concerned about germs too much. She's a healthy baby, so being exposed to different things is actually good in the long run, to build up her immunity.

That said, if you are the type to really stress about germs, then you're certainly within your rights to do what you have to do for your own peace of mind. Just be prepared that some people might roll their eyes or try to argue with you. Just ignore it, smile, and stand firm. If someone asked me to wash my hands before touching their baby, I might internally think it's a little paranoid but I would do it without complaint. It's their baby, and if that's what makes the mom happy, then where's the harm?

Definitely not. If they came to the hospital they would have to. You don't know where their hands have been. It's not like you're asking them to strip down and put on hazmat suits. Washing hands should be something they do already and literally takes 30 seconds. I keep a big bottle of hand sanatizer on my coffee table for everyone who's come to visit to use before holding him.

They're really sensitive as baby's so i always made people put on hand sanitizer. I have the big bottled one lol

Not unreasonable at all. I think around 8 weeks old I started to ease up slightly.  He had begun his vaccines and his immune system was a little better especially since I'm breastfeeding. He's 8 months old and only had 2 runny noses. Not even real colds. (One he caught from me)

I asked people to wash their hands and if they smoke to change their clothes before touching her ,also no kissing or touching her face. But that was only till she was 2 months and now I just pass her off to people all the time or they just come grab her...which is funny cause one of my husband's friends is super immature and not responsible at all but I trust him more with her then most family members and he is amazing with her

Nope.  I stopped doing it after he was 3 months and he's been sick back to back ever since.  So I can only imagine if I stored it at 6 weeks.
