what time should I take it?

My bf and I have been together a while and I'd like to have sex without a condom but we're worried about how safe it will be with my forgetfulness taking my pills. I'm a little unclear on when I should be taking it? Like I get that I need it every day but does the exact time matter? My friends make it sound like if you don't take it at exactly 8 every day you're screwed.
