you're pregnant with quintuples, Doctor suggests "reducing" pregnancy to triplets or twins. Would you?

I am pro choice 100% and would definitely consider aborting any child that causes a health risk to myself or if carrying them poses a  serious threat to the health of a more viable child I am carrying.

Unless there's a VERY GOOD reason to. Like if the baby was sick, dying, and would hurt the others. I couldn't stand the thought of killing one of their siblings for no reason

There's risks attached to selective reduction for the babies left - all of them could miscarry.

We did another round of IVF in Sept 16 and I'd had 2 failed cycles before in TTC #2, so I did a bit of research around transferring more than 1 embryo. In Australia there has to be a very good reason to transfer more than 1 and from what I could see you had to be over 40 with really low chances / lots of complicating factors to even consider 3 (3 being the max number transferred here). I was lucky my dr agreed to transfer 2 and we were lucky that 1 took (I would have been super excited and twice as nervous if both took). This appears to be similar in the U.K. and lots of other places. The US is different though - there were dozens of stories and articles from fertility clinics talking about transferring 5-8 embryos. To me this level of transfer is crazy!! From what I've read each embryo has the same chance of implanting as the next and transferring more than 1 increases your chances slightly. BUT the risks associated with every additional baby is huge. There is alway a chance that more babies than a body can handle could be conceived (naturally or via IVF) but doing things that increases this risk seems dangerous. Anecdotally it seemed people were wanting the absolute best possible chance of conception while doing IVF due to costs associated - this appeared to be why on the US Drs and patients were so willing to take the risk of transferring so many.

I'm pro choice so you need or want to selectively reduce that's your call to weigh up the risks and do what's needed. No judgement!! But I think Drs need to be far more cautious when lots of things about the IVF process can increase the chance of twins or more.

Really really really depends on the reason why. If there was something going to be wrong with the other babies because of 1 then yes I'd risk the chances for the rest of my kids.

I was telling my SO the other day that if I got pregnant with multiples I would do this.
I could barely carry one and that almost killed me(literally). I wouldn't physically be able to carry more than one.

No never. And I have 3 kids already lol I'd leave it be and see what happened. And how is it safe to abort certain babies but the remaining ones survive?

Only if it was for safety reasons. Like if i didnt one or more of them could die or it would hurt me kinda thing. But thats just me personally. Anyone can do as they wish ✌

Maybe. The only reason being, you only have so much space for babies. Your belly doesn't stretch extra to accommodate for the extra babies. That meaning, most of the time, babies likes twins, triplets, etc., come out very small and some of them die anyway. If I knew that that was likely, I would want my other baby/babies to be as big and healthy as possible before giving birth.
