Did being on anti depressants prior to giving birth stop your PND?

Just wondered to all u ladies that might already have been on SSRIs wether that helped you avoid getting post anatal depression. I've been on citalopram about a year and a half now and due in 6 weeks so just looking for some feedback. Thanks.

I am hoping the SSRI helps prevent post partum depression, but if not my husband is well educated in what to look for. I feel I am pretty in touch with my anxiety and depression symptoms, so I think I would be able to tell, but you never know. 
Bottom line - yes I am 35 weeks pregnant and on an SSRI to manage anxiety and I have no embarrassment talking to my doctor about increasing the dose after baby if needed.

I have a long history of depression so I started an SSRI at about 20 weeks pregnant with my first because I was already struggling. I didn't end up having PND, I think mainly because I kept taking my meds and adjusted the dosage as needed, and I had a really great mom support group, people with similar issues who kept it really really real. I'm doing the same thing this time and hoping for the best.

You should ask in the general section as many of us are still pregnant so we wouldn't know. Unless you get lucky and someone having their baby in feb 17 has had two other kids one with and one without. Just a thought
