Back labor?

Question

I have been having severe back pain to the point I can't move. I'm 36 weeks it comes with small period like cramps buy it barely notice them after awhile because my back hurts so bad. It's also not just my lower back it goes from the middle of my back down. Could it be back labor or something else?

Answer

Could just be pregnancy, the babies position or your body preparing for labor. Usually back labor is caused by baby being face up rather than face down. If it's true labor it won't stop and the contractions will get closer and more intense. We tell our patients they should be consistently  3 to 4 mins apart and if they away while laying down or relaxing it's not labor.
