"Was this an accident?"

Question

I'm pregnant with my first (probably only), very wanted baby at 43 via IVF after two years of fertility struggles and TTC naturally before that. I am SHOCKED at how many people are asking me if this was an accident. It feels like a very rude assumption, and it hurts because it's so very untrue. I tried so hard for this.

I'm 42 and got the same thing. Granted we aren't married (we live together). People think we are past wanting kids and thinking retirement.

I'm 41 and I've had a few people ask if it was a "surprise".  Seriously. Nope, she was absolutely planned but even if she wasn't it's none of your damn business.

Thanks everyone! I'm 32 weeks today and we seem to have gotten beyond the people who would ask this question. I'm still shocked that so many felt like it was okay to ask, but at least pretty much all were supportive once they got past the curiousity/gossipy aspect of it.

First, congratulations! Second, wow, I can't believe how rude and inconsiderate people can be. I just found out we are pregnant and I'm 5 weeks/ 5 days. It's still very early so I'm cautious and only people I'm very close with know (my mom, my sister, my godmother)I went through 2 cycles of ivf and 3 iui's and I've heard just about every comment you can imagine from positive to negative, and supportive to snarky. Keep us posted on your journey. Right now I need all the positivity and support I can get. (I'm trying to stay excited and not stress) Blessings!

I am 41, husband 46 and we were trying for a long time and a week before fertility intervention we conceived naturally. And people always ask, were you trying. My answer is always "man I hope so, or our birth control really failed us!" This will be our only because of our ages. This pregnancy is a joy and we are blessed. Our friends and family are over the moon and that is all that matters. We are 28.5 weeks now. Enjoy your pregnancy and ignore the ignorant. Congratulations on baby!

Hello Katie! Congratulations on your pregnancy! I'm 41 and want to conceive. We are considering IVF and scheduled our first appointment mid January. We were debating on having a baby together since this is both our 2nd marriage , but finally decided to give it a chance. I can say that we are somewhat overwhelmed with the cost of IVF and I have asked my husband multiple times how badly he wants a Baby. I just one of those situations that you just have to walk by faith and trust God we all control for the uknown!

I get the same at 41 and 31w. People are rude. I've gotten it more from friends than others... I'm like, don't you know me? Surprises are fine, but this was planned. So irritating.
