should my newborn be eating so much?!

My pediatrician says that 2oz is recommended for my 5 day old baby but when I give her that much she gets fussy and very obviously wants more. She ends up eating 3-4oz every two or three hours. Am I overfeeding her and could it hurt her?

The rule of thumb is take your babies weight and multiply by 2.5 and thats how many oz they should take in 24 hrs. But with that being said my daughter eats way more then that haha my daughter is 2 months old and eats 5oz with rice  (for acid reflux) every 2-3 hours or 5-6 hours at night. My daughter has always eaten more then the "recommend" amount. As long as your baby isn't spitting up after eating and your looking out for signs your baby is full (turning away from the source of food, deadweighting the arms, stopping sucking) and your not forcing then keep feeding your child. Don't let your child go hungry based off a recommendation :) your doing good mama.

I would say if she isn't spitting it all back up it's fine. My son is taking about 2.5oz every 3 hours at 11 days old. They told us 2 but he needed more. Go with your gut. Not every baby is the same.
