Do you have a comprehensive understanding of abuse or rape?

I find it extremely discomforting the amount of people that don't seem to really understand what abuse (in any of its forms) or rape are. 
What I would like to know is how many of you have done research about these topics and how they affect the people involved, scientific reports AND personal accounts?
